Philosophy & Approach

As a collective, we have a passion for learning and we actively engage in ongoing education and support each other in our work. We each have training in a variety of treatment modalities and draw from relational/psychodynamic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. (We understand many people might not be familiar with these terms and we would be pleased to explain these further in your phone consult.) We recognize that people are complex and that one type of therapy does not fit all. Bearing this in mind, we take a non-pathologizing, trauma-informed approach and work in an integrative and flexible manner depending on clients’ unique concerns, experiences, and expressed preferences. Our treatment is informed by clients’ feedback in order to tailor the process to fit our clients' expressed goals, values and needs. Our primary focus is cultivating a good working relationship with our clients predicated on authenticity, trust and respect.

There are many determinants of mental health that are biological, social, and psychological. As such, and when appropriate, we work in collaboration with general practitioners, psychiatrists and other family members. We also recognize that people exist within a cultural context and we aspire to be highly respectful of the intersecting realities that shape our clients’ identities.
